Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE)

"A non-profit organization dedicated to conducting and documenting skillful forensic evidence collection with compassionate care when a patient makes a disclosure of sexual assault."

Philosophy
The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Program will offer comprehensive and collaborative care to victims of sexual assault in the emergency room or clinic and will also educate those victims on their rights and benefits of receiving an exam and treatment.

Assistance
If you have been a victim of sexual assault, please do not bathe, eat, drink, smoke, brush your teeth, or wipe after urination. Please seek emergency medical treatment as soon as possible. The emergency room staff at our designated SANE sites or the local law enforcement agency will notify the SANE Nurse on call. The SANE will then meet you at the hospital. You are not required to report to law enforcement in order to obtain a forensic exam and receive treatment.
